Re: My Harley issues

The status of my 2006 electraglide and my wife's 2003 Dyna lowrider are unchanged. Both bikes still make a metal grinding noise like a coffee grinder. Three HD Master Mechanics tell me this noise is normal. I refuse to believe it. I do believe that original workmanship and quality control from the factory may be a factor. My hunch is they made a lousy transmission - unfortunately I refuse to pay the 2K to replace it. I also emailed the gentleman from Moreno Valley Choppers who asked me to think outside the box. It's possible something is loose on the bike. I'll go through every bolt and screw I can find and make sure they're tight. More to follow. We (like many others) love our Harley's. Too bad poor customer service and technician skill level is the weak link for the organization. I've been looking at other "similar bikes" and dollar for dollar, HD is not the best buy on the market. Those of us who choose to own them, do so for personal reasons. I'm not ready to give up.

I wouldn't give up either.

I wouldn't give up either. Harley is an image thing, that's why they sell so many. Usually metal noise is caused by friction and ware. Has the noise been there since day 1? It is unusual 2 totally different bikes have the same problem. How do you do your own maintenance? Where I'm going here, depending on your answer, if these 2 problems just popped up, what has been done to them that they have in common. Is the noise there when in neutral, if not, if you bring the rpms up to 3K is the noise there. You need to isolate the problem. Bottom-line is it drive problem or engine problem? The likelihood of having the same problem at the same time is impossible unless the problems where inflected, bad fluids. Shit just don't happen. Let me know.
