My Harley issues - 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna

Ok 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna. My issues are with support and warranty loop holes. The Bike itself is great, handling, power, "largest engine". First problem was the purchase of heated hand grips, they didn't work, so bike was being serviced at Harley and they took a look at them and said I shorted them out, wrong. When I purchased them they weren't sealed tight, the inline fuzz wasn't installed. I discovered that when I started playing with the original ones, I argued and won, they still charged me for the labor, the fuzz is the first thing they should have checked, that would have been a cheap fix. I bought the extended warranty 6 yrs, $1200.00 Look at the way things are worded, it seems if there is a problem it is most likely your fault. Flat rear tire, several hundred dollars, no warranty, 1 year old. I posted a complaint at Harley and I received a call, they were nice, but so what I got nothing in the form of reimbursements. The way things are structured there are no resolutions. There name and past reputation has gotten them far, sadly they seem to be losing that on the after sale side. You can't send Harley an email to complain, try to call and you spend the day on hold. Them and their dealers need to understand customer satisfaction is the key to successful business. Things need to improve or go down. I live in Central Mass. Hey hopefully this complaint will alter/fix their issues.

Hi Ken, Rich King here. I

Hi Ken, Rich King here. I just read the message Clayton posted for you. Here's something that might help next time they start abusing you in regards to blaming you for their problems. The Magnussun-Moss act passed by congress implies that the factory must PROVE that any mdification you made to their products actually caused the problem.

My service writer told me the only warranty that Hardley would explicitly ignore were to those bikes that had been made into trikes. Wionder how their going to handle that with the new Trikes their making in conjunction with Lehman.

I'm in Italy for another ten days, so I still don't know if my Ultra (that's been down since August 15th) will have its new motor yet or not. I'm going to push for at least another year on my warranty since the bike's been in the shop so much. They better not even think of trying to hit me with a bill. I've got more ASE certifications than their entire shop. I almost hope to go to court with them, but I'd really rather just ride. I'll keep Clayton's site posted on that outcome.

Good Luck with your issues and don't let them push you around,

Rich

Thanks Rich for the feedback.

Thanks Rich for the feedback. I already hit em where it hurts: their pockets. Its all politics and logistics and loop holes. Basically the 2 year warranty is up, so whatever happens is on my lap now. I do all my own preventive maintenance and use the best lubes "not screaming eagle". I feel Harley already addressed my complaint to the local dealer, as they are nicer and more cooperative now, lets see if the tides stay that way. I have this gift and its called arrogance, as long as it is backed by factual info, it works. I love bitch sessions and I am always willing to participate and hopefully it will help. I am very impressed with the site and the feedback I receive from you all.

Thanks,
Ken DeVries

If you ask any Harley

If you ask any Harley mechanic what the weak spot is in the V-Twin, they will tell you that it is the cam tensioners. Eventually they will break and when they do, there goes the oil pump, in all probability the heads and the whole upper end. Harley's are great static displays but if you ride them, they will break. The o7 ran hot, the o8, ran hotter and the 09's are blast furnaces all due to stringent EPA requirements. Pay 20-30-40 thousand dollars for an 09 and have a feature that allows you to turn off the back cylinder on idle, how nuts is that? Once Harley reverts to water cooled motors in their bikes they will be on the down hill slide. The only thing that has kept them in business is their air cooled V-Twin, once that goes away so will they. The only good news is that where you live with having to deal with winters and all, your bike might last awhile longer since your riding season is limited. Enjoy cleaning it, looking at it, polishing it but try avoiding riding it!

Gabe, I have a 76 FXE, what I

Gabe, I have a 76 FXE, what I installed on that was an oil cooler, which bolts on to front frame. You also can leave on when it gets cooler/cold and put the cover over the cooler. I don't have it installed on my 2007 Dyna, don't want to mess with it yet.

Ken, an oil cooler is not the

Ken, an oil cooler is not the problem. I recommend that you don't mess with your 2007 other than to add a fuel management system. Harleys are leaned out at the factory to try and comply with EPA standards and guess what each year those standards become more stringent and difficult to achieve. I am relatively certain that this 09 year might be the last one for the air-cooled V-Twin. I believe that they have them leaned out as far as they possibly can. The 09's have a feature that allows you to turn off the rear cylinder on idle how nuts is that? If you want to resolve your over-heating problem, get a Power Commander fuel management system and enrich the fuel flow. Gas actually cools engines and the Harleys all need more fuel. Harley cuts down the amount of fuel to run the engines lean which makes them excessively hot which helps to burn off contaminates that otherwise would flow out of the exhaust pipes. I have had two Road Kings, a 1998 and a 2000, both bike's have had five upper ends and a whole lot of other mechanically related problems as the attached clearly refelects. Harley actually gave me the 00 to avoid a law suit. Like I wrote if you ride them they will break! Good luck with whatever you elect to do! I suspect that over the next few years Harley will be knocked down a notch or two!

Confused, I have no issues, I

Confused, I have no issues, I was just feeding back. As far as rich/lean look at your plug color light tan/whitish good, black to rich, grayest to lean. Whatever, change the jets in the carb to compensate, jetting is impacted by temperature and altitude, not sure if they have anything regarding that in the manual, also depends on the year of your bike "fuel injection". Also check for recalls on Harley's site, there are some issues and they were resolved by uploading "electronics within the bike" some software changes, how the system reacts to certain things. The Harleys today are more like computers, something goes wrong compensation is triggered "electrically". The beauty of these conversations is you always learn something, if your willing to listen :)

Ken, if you have an 07, I

Ken, if you have an 07, I believe that it must be fuel injected and as such there are no jets to replace! Anyway, I am not trying to fight with you, just trying to give you some pointers having experienced all of the nightmares that I have based on the history of repairs on my 2000 HD. The truth is that for the most part Harley's although fun to ride, generally all SUCK.

Gabe

I knows it. Owned and

I knows it. Owned and operated em for 32 years, would ride no other. Never really had problems overall. I have a Dyna biggest engine, no spoke wheel, I can almost lay it down when making sharp turns. I do all my own maintenance for various reasons, use aims oil, treat tires regularly. My real only issue is with after-sale support. My wife accuses me of taking better care of my bike then my kids, she's probably right :) Gabe best conversations come out of disagreements :) Your a good man and you care.

Take care
