H-D Electrical Failure

Bike cuts out, complete electric failure, approximately 30-45 seconds after leaving an extended red light, or pulling hills during hot weather conditions in Phoenix and nearby hills. Will sit for 2-4 minutes, and breaker will reset on it's own, bike starts and runs great until the next extended light or heavy hill. Charging system is putting out 13.6 volts. The 40 Amp breaker was replaced by a 50 Amp on a recall. No faults noted on engine scanner

Should I try a 60 amp breaker?

Is the Stator in the charging system bad?

Are lower fairings and heat deflectors under the seat trapping heat around the breaker area?

Can I get some kind of blower fan installed under the seat?

H-D Electrical Failure

James, I realize you posted in 07 but I'm having a very similar issue with my HC 2000. Cuts out after extended red light...long, steep hill pulls... It doesn't cut out completely. Starts sputtering...I notice the LCD on the odometer flashes on and off. Shut it down...let it sit for a few minutes. It's fine.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your bike?

Thanks,

Nick

Cut-Out

Sounds like you are having a fuel injection wiring problem. I experienced that too and it was because the wires got pulled to tight by the throttle cable because I had slightly extended reach bars on the bike.

My electrical problem was solved by using a 50 amp breaker and moving it away from it's normal mounting spot behind the rear cylinder to the right side pod. It required a NAPA 50 AMP breaker, and about 10 inches of wire. I just tie wrapped it to an existing wire bundle there. It got a little more cool air out there. It was a trick used by the Vegas PD on their bikes....Jim

I experienced that exact same

I experienced that exact same thing on my 2003 FLTR....and yes it was a bad crimp at the forward injector.....
