Gas Tank Noise
This problem seems minor compared to others on your site, but it is driving me nuts. This season, my '08 Dyna Superglide has developed a nasty clunk that seems to come from the gas tank, whenever I go over a bump, manhole cover, or pot-hole. This is its second riding season, and I have about 5200 miles on it. At first, I thought it might actually be inside the tank, like the fuel pump, but I can't rule out the instrument console either. I have had that off a couple of times, but have not found anything loose. Somewhat concerned that if it is comming from inside the tank, I will be left stranded or worse. I checked with some friends that have touring models, but none have this noise. Don't think that this matters, but over the Winter replaced the stock seat with a Harley "Sundowner", and also added a small luggage rack behind the sissy bar. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Don C.

I have the exact same issue...thanks for the help. Now I know
Update 10/8/09 - The problem
Update 10/8/09 - The problem was the gas tank bolts. They seemed tight enough, but another 1/2 turn on each completely solved the problem. Apparently, this is a very common problem with Dynas, but a 3 minute fix.
Now here is the rest of the story. I took the bike in for it's 5k service soon after I posted the original complaint, and I asked the dealer to fix it. The next day when I picked up the bike, they said it was loose wire connectors under the console, and they took care of it. On the ride home, it was obvious they did not, because the clunk was still there. I pulled off the console at home, and found a big wad of duct tape underneath, supposedly holding the wires in place. Probably took them more time to do that, than to actually correct the problem.
Other than that, this has been a great bike. Handles well, comfortable, looks great - and I am getting used to all the sewing machine noise from the motor top end.
7500 miles now.

clunk from tank area
Sounds to me that the neck bearings are out of adjustment or are not tourqed to the right spec causeing the bearings to clunk whenever you hit a bump. common problum with all modle h-ds this should be ckd during just about any mileage service.
