OIL PRESSURE

I have an 08 Heritage Softail, 7200 miles on it, I had a trip (1200 mi.) interupted this past summer and had to trailer the bike home, $500 out of my pocket. The oil pressure light had come on. HD dealer, took apart the cam shaft plate and found the oil relief pin "ovaled" and froze up. This oil pressure light coming on has happened 3 times now, and I am getting no where with HD having the engine tore down to take a look inside the engine, they keep testing the oil pressures and giving it back to me with NO findings, the first time a small pc. of debris was found, looked like it could have came from a bearing. I have a 2500 mile trip planned for this summer and I am really worried it is going to let me down in the middle of it again.

ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR COMPLAINT???????

Gas Tank Noise

This problem seems minor compared to others on your site, but it is driving me nuts. This season, my '08 Dyna Superglide has developed a nasty clunk that seems to come from the gas tank, whenever I go over a bump, manhole cover, or pot-hole. This is its second riding season, and I have about 5200 miles on it. At first, I thought it might actually be inside the tank, like the fuel pump, but I can't rule out the instrument console either. I have had that off a couple of times, but have not found anything loose.

Harley Reliability

Do you see a common thread in some of these complaints on the reliability of Harleys? It's modifications and service done improperly! I just purchased a new 2008 FXSTC anniversary model. The last new bike I bought was a FXRS in 1988. I drove the hell out of that machine, had it cammed up, heads modified, and converted to AMSOIL synthetic in engine, trans, and primary at 10,000 miles. I paid 8,000 dollars for that bike new. I just sold it exactly 20 years later for 9,000 dollars and went and bought my new Softail. I changed the engine oil religiously at every 5,000 miles.

Re: Harley Missing Gasket

Hi Clayton- On your blog, I posted an oil leak on my '08 FLSTSB. It turns out that a primary cover gasket was left off at the factory, gulp.... makes me a little nervous about the assembly folks up there in York, PA. To be fair, the gasket was installed and there have been no other troubles. Otherwise, I'm really enjoying the bike and with gasoline prices what they are, I'm riding the bike as much as possible.

Handle bars on a 2008

I purchased a 2008 Road King last March and was once struck by the discomfort of the handlebars (too short, too far forward). This is my 4th Harley and the first time I have experienced any riding dismay. When I purchased the bike (this is my 4th Harley, so I am not unfamiliar with their product) I indicated to the salesman that the bars were not as comfortable as on the Ultra (my previous bike) he said "no problem, you can change them later if you care to". After riding a few weeks I decided to change them only to find out that Harley has not yet designed any optional bars for the 2008.

Harley Fat Boy

I own a 2008 Harley Fat Boy. Have 3200 miles on it this season alone (I've only had it since Nov 30,2008 I Live in Ohio). I love it!!!!!! The ride is smooth and I have had no mechanical issues except the heated grips not working. The dealer fixed them under warranty and my season has been wonderful thus far. I purchased my bike in November and only had two miles on the meter. What a season!!! It's harley all the way for me.

Thanks for listening

2008 FLSTSB

Hey Clayton- Great website, love all the info. I just got a 2008 FLSTSB, and guess what! at 159 miles, oil leaks on my driveway coming from my outer primary cover! The bike goes to HD in 2 days to have it repaired. I bought the big warranty package which I plan on using for even the slightest suggestion of oil leak. Otherwise, the bike is fun, smooth, and comfortable. We'll see how it all comes out in the end! Cheers, Jerry
