My Harley Davidson: 2003 FLHTCU

Hi Fellow Rider, I have a 2003 FLHTCU with roughly 9500 miles on it. When I got it in February it only had 6200 so I put more mileage on her in 6 months than the previous owner put on it in half the time he owned it. I did one service on it so that I could be sure all the service was up to date.

I used synthetic oil and had the service done by the local H.D. Shop. Some of my background includes a Honda 350, and 63 Sportster, a 75 BMW R75/5 (750), A Ducati 650 single, a Honda GL 1000, a Suzuki 1000, a Yamaha V-Star 1100, and my current 03 FLHTCU.

Of all those bikes I am most satisfied with the current one. There is absolutely nothing to compare to the feeling of "Rolling Thunder". The new Harley is absolutely the nicest bike I've ever owned. It runs extremely well, has zero oil leaks, gets good gas mileage, and handles a lot better than I thought it would.

Actually it handles better than my old GL1000 and is more fun to ride than my old BMW R75/5 (750). It's also the first bike I've owned that my wife actually likes. All in all I have to say I love my Harley Davidson.

This bike has proven to me that there is only one REAL motorcycle, and that's a Harley.

Here is a true story for you!

I have figured out today and had a lot of fun laughing and acting up about it today! The best way to enjoy a Harley is to shine it up, and park it in the garage. Go get you a lawn chair and a brewster and sit and admire your bike......just do not try to ride it!! Kit

HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES
A COMMON SENSE LOOK
IT IS A SHAME-REALLY IS

I have rode motorcycles all my life, I am now 53 years old and in the market for a new machine. I have had every make of motorcycle made I suppose, including three Harleys.

2003 Road King

Hey I have a 2003 Road King, 30,000 miles and it has just now developed an oil leak. the best I can tell is it leaks where the primary and the transmission connect. I have only ridden it about 300 miles this year. I can recall a hard shift at a gas station right before the leak appeared. any guesses? estimates of cost? am afraid to take it to dealer sick and tired of giving them money. Had back saddle bag brace bracket break last year and bought two new tires for 1,300 dollar service repair bill, I about puked and swore I would find an alternative to using them again.

Harley Experience

I've posted before about my Harley from the 1950's to the present. What I seem to see is bad dealers not bad bikes. No matter what you purchase there are bad dealers (Automobile, airplanes, Home Depot). I posted my 1989 Electra Guide with almost 200,000 miles without a tear down. I purchased a 2003 Electra Guide on August 1, 2003 (20,001 miles and still going) from Gary Bang Harley Davidson in Atascadero, CA and 2004 Heritage Softtail on May 15, 2004. I paid MSRP and a $350 dealer setup fee plus the shipping and taxes. My opinion is that today's Harley is a well built machine that will take you where you want to go without any problems. The machines are near perfect. Some dealers are questionable. Get away from them. The Harley is a fantastic machine.

Loved your page!!! I'm sure my husband will too since he's no longer in the dog house for the mirror just falling off. We have a 100th Sportster 1200 and he just came home last night holding the mirror in his hand saying "it just fell off!" I was just sure he was being irresponsible and hit something, but after reading all your comments I guess it really does happen. Also wanted to comment that other than the speedometer failing occasionally for no reason, we've had no problems at all. But it's pretty new, only 3000 miles on it so far.
