cam tensioner

i have a 02 roadking with 62.000 kilometers on it, i change my oil at least every 4.ooo ks amsoil 20-50 and new filter, the last two oil changes i noticed very small orange fibers in my oil filter when i cut it open, harley dealer said it is from cam tensioners and should be changed before they grenade,
also said do cam bearings, cam chains, lifters, and go to new style breathers as they are metal instead of plastic, and whatever other parts are needed to do the job

i agree with the lifters, after the bike sits for a hour or so after a long ride a lifter or 2 bang pretty loud for 30 to 60 sec, also does the same when it is stone cold, and at different speeds the lifters are noisy

anyway the harley dealer where the bike is wants $1400 plus tax to do the job, has not started yet

thanks jim-d

on my second 02 roadking now

Hey clayton, I'm on my second 02 roadking now, I sold my other one after serving me for over 6 years and 106,000 miles later and all I can say is these bikes are really tough and I'm working on acquiring another H-D, it's an 05 softail deluxe so that's it for now until next time again.

He was riding a 2002 Electra Glide. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed. After the accident, the local Police Dept banned its Harley-equipped motorcycle units from patrolling the interstates. This ban is still in effect.

RE: 1975 Harley

I have 104,040 miles to be exact on mine and still trouble free

I owned 2 sporties in my life and I outgrew them real fast but now I owned 2 (2002) roadkings and they've taken me all over California, Arizona and Nevada and these 2 are it for me.

Re: Problems with my 03 Road King

My 02 roadking still runs strong at 90,000 miles and still no leaks

HARLEY'S RELIABILITY

I ride a 2002 roadking with over 76,000 miles on the clock and I ride to and from work everyday and there's no leak at all

Harley experience

My Harley experience started right before my 31st birthday. I bought a brand new 2002 Road King Classic (leather bags, fuel injection etc.). The bike was perfect in every way, however 10 days later I dropped it off at my dealer to have a big bore Stage II kit installed. 95 cu. in. (up from 88), performance cams, air cleaner, fuel injection remapping. The catalog said this was supposed to increase my horsepower from 62 to 78 and my torque from 78 to 93 ft.lbs. I was initially disappointed that the bike didn't really feel faster than before but it ran great.

2002 XL-1200C Experience

Hey C, Ok I bought a 2002 XL-1200C brand new from the HD dealer in April, 2002 and have had many of the classic problems that other folks on your site have had. Yup, mirror broke off and hit me in the leg while riding. Yes, lost screw from clutch bracket and of course, oil blow by from top breather hollow bolts. Once, the air filter gets loaded with oil it sprays all over the side of the bike. I know there is a Spyke Krank Vent to fix this problem but, I haven't forked over the 100 bucks to buy them.
